Mosquito that transmits dengue, zika and chikungunya detected in Castelo Branco
Health authorities have confirmed the presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito (tiger mosquito) in the municipality of Castelo Branco, identified by the REVIVE surveillance network. While the species can carry viruses, no infected mosquitoes have been detected in Portugal to date. Residents are advised to eliminate standing water in items like pots, buckets, tires, and gutters to prevent mosquito breeding.
