Mortgage payments have increased by more than 100 euros since the start of the war in Iran
Variable-rate mortgage payments for Portuguese households have risen significantly since February 28, following two interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank. Simulations for debts of 50,000, 100,000, and 200,000 euros show that monthly payments have increased by between approximately 16 and 123 euros depending on the loan size, with the latest ECB increase of 0.25 percentage points occurring on September 10.
Why it mattersIf you have a variable-rate mortgage in Portugal, your monthly bank payment has likely increased due to the recent rise in Euribor rates, and you should factor these higher costs into your household budget.
