Montenegro's taboo on pension bonus and new transport pass expansion
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has not yet decided if retirees will receive an extraordinary pension bonus (100 to 200 euros) this year, stating that a decision depends on public finance capacity. Separately, the government announced that the 20-euro 'Green Railway Pass' will be valid on urban transport in Lisbon and Porto starting next month. Additionally, the state has acquired a 13.7% stake in the national energy grid operator, REN, from the owner of Zara.
Why it mattersIf you are a retiree, the government has not yet confirmed if you will receive the usual extraordinary bonus this year; if you commute in Lisbon or Porto, you will be able to use the 20-euro Green Railway Pass on urban transport systems starting in September.
