Iberian electricity: most expensive autumn since 2022
The wholesale electricity price in the Iberian market (OMIE) has averaged 147.6 euros/MWh from September 1 to October 10, the third-highest value recorded for this autumn period since 1998. The increase is driven by higher global gas prices due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, rising demand, and a lower contribution from renewable energy sources compared to previous years.
Why it mattersWhile this is a wholesale market report rather than a direct retail price hike, sustained high wholesale costs often lead to higher consumer electricity bills in the medium term.
