Government launches first renewable energy and storage auctions since 2021 with total capacity of 1,050 MVA

The government has launched two competitive auctions for grid connection capacity: 300 MVA for renewable energy projects with integrated storage, and 750 MVA for stand-alone battery storage installations. These are the first such tenders since 2021, aiming to reach 3 GW of battery storage capacity by 2030 and reduce reliance on natural gas plants by storing energy when prices are lower. Municipalities will receive 30% of the revenue from the storage auction and 70% from the renewable capacity auction, in addition to annual project compensation payments.
