Government increases ISP tax discount on diesel and petrol

The government is increasing the extraordinary tax discount on fuel (ISP) by 2.1 cents per litre for diesel and 1.4 cents for petrol starting next week, following a Diário da República publication this Friday, 2026-08-14. Despite this measure, fuel prices are still expected to rise by 8 to 10 cents per litre for diesel and 8.5 to 9 cents for petrol, based on industry estimates.

Why it mattersIf you drive, expect fuel prices to rise significantly next week, even with the government's minor tax adjustment intended to mitigate the increase.
