“Glottophobia”: They speak Portuguese, but State does not let them work

Brazilian speech therapists report systemic rejection by the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS) for failing to demonstrate proficiency in European Portuguese, a requirement introduced in 2018. A petition is currently before the Assembly of the Republic, challenging the transparency and legality of the linguistic tests and curriculum-equivalency assessments that have prevented nearly all Brazilian applicants from practicing since 2019.
