Fuel price increases see fishing boats left at moorings

Industrial fishing shipowners have mothballed around 20% of their fleet due to surging fuel costs, which now account for half of their operating expenses compared to 30% before March. Refuelling a large long-distance vessel now exceeds one million euros, prompting the Association of Industrial Fishing Shipowners to urgently call for promised government aid to be disbursed as early as next month.
