Fishermen can apply for support due to the ban on swordfish capture

Shipowners and crew members licensed to fish for swordfish can now apply for financial compensation for lost income caused by the temporary ban. Applications are open from Wednesday, August 19, 2026, until 18:00 on October 29, 2026, via the Balcão dos Fundos portal.

Why it mattersIf you are a commercial fisherman or shipowner licensed for swordfish capture, you can now apply for government compensation for the income lost during the temporary fishing ban.
