Fewer houses are being sold and prices continue to rise: what do the latest INE numbers tell us?

The median price of homes sold in Portugal rose by 18.4% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 2,445 euros per square meter. Despite this price increase across all regions, the total number of property transactions dropped by 9% year-on-year, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on 23 October 2026.

PS leader says IHRU president was 'unfortunate' but does not call for his resignation

The president of the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), Benjamim Pereira, apologized for recent comments suggesting today's youth should make more sacrifices to afford housing, similar to previous generations.
