Drug trial patients guaranteed continued free treatment under new rules

Clinical trial sponsors are now required to continue providing medicines free of charge to patients who still need them once a trial ends, provided no comparable alternative exists. This mandate applies until the medicine becomes commercially available through the national health service (SNS) or if public funding is denied. Costs associated with this mandatory free supply cannot be offloaded onto public funding contracts.
