Daycare in Portugal is not like in Brazil: understand the differences before looking for a spot
In Portugal, daycare is classified as a social service under the Ministry of Social Security rather than the Ministry of Education. While the government's 'Creche Feliz' program provides free daycare for children born from September 1, 2021, onwards, there is a systemic shortage of spots, with an official national coverage rate of only 56.7%.
