Caixa warns of SMS scam in Portugal

Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) has issued a warning regarding a smishing scam where fraudsters use spoofing to make messages or calls appear as if they are coming from the bank. The bank states that it never sends links in SMS messages or emails for security alerts, and never requests security codes, login credentials, or ATM actions.

Why it mattersIf you are a Caixa customer, be aware that any SMS or call asking for your banking credentials or security codes is fraudulent; do not click any links or provide information, as the bank will never contact you in this way.

2027 State Budget: Government expects to collect more tax revenue, except on corporate profits

The government's 2027 State Budget proposal, delivered on October 8, 2026, projects an overall increase in tax revenue of 4.2%. While corporate income tax (IRC) is set to decrease from 19% to 18%—resulting in a 1% drop in revenue from that source—revenues from IRS, fuel taxes (ISP), tobacco tax, and specific levies on the energy and banking sectors are all expected to rise.

The government has finalized the extraordinary pension payment to be made in December, covering retirees with total monthly pensions up to 1,611.39 euros.
