Bathing discouraged at three beaches in Póvoa de Varzim due to water contamination

The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) has issued a warning against bathing at Codixeira, Lagoa, and Zona Urbana Sul II beaches in Póvoa de Varzim due to high levels of intestinal enterococci and/or E. coli. The warning has been in effect since Tuesday, 2026-09-01.

Why it mattersIf you are planning to visit these beaches in Póvoa de Varzim, avoid swimming in them to prevent potential health risks from microbiological contamination.
