Almost all of the country's interior and the Algarve are at maximum or very high wildfire risk
The weather institute (IPMA) has placed approximately 70 municipalities across eight districts at maximum wildfire risk today, with roughly 100 more at very high risk. Additionally, yellow warnings for high temperatures are in effect for several districts in mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago until varying times today, tomorrow, and Saturday.
Why it mattersIf you are in or traveling through the interior or the Algarve, there is a severe risk of wildfire today; avoid any activity that could spark a flame and keep track of local fire safety alerts.
