Almost all municipalities in the interior North and Centre at maximum wildfire risk this Sunday
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed most municipalities in the interior North and Centre of mainland Portugal at maximum wildfire risk today, Sunday, August 16, 2026. This includes all municipalities in the districts of Bragança and Guarda, and nearly all in Viseu, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, and Santarém, as well as interior areas of Porto and northern Portalegre.
Why it mattersIf you are in the interior North or Centre, there is a maximum risk of fire today; take extreme care with any activity that could spark a flame and keep track of local emergency updates.
