After paying for housing, 27% of the population is at risk of poverty

The national poverty rate, which stands at 15.4%, rises to 26.8% when housing expenses are deducted from household income. Data shows this burden is highest among children and that the majority of those in poverty (53%) rely on employment, not social benefits, as their primary source of income.
