When cure is not possible, care remains: the MIDAS project is launched
The Instituto S. João de Deus has officially launched the MIDAS project, a national palliative care initiative specifically designed to address the needs of patients with severe mental illness at the end of life. The project provides interdisciplinary support, including medical, psychological, and social care, to ensure patients receive comfort and dignity within their familiar institutional environments.
Why it mattersIf you or a family member are receiving long-term mental health care in Portugal, this project establishes a new national framework for palliative support, which may improve access to end-of-life care and psychological comfort within existing care facilities.
