Portugal's inflation rate rose to 3.8% in October, up from 3.6% in September, driven primarily by a 17.4% year-on-year increase in energy product prices. This figure, released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), matches the highest levels recorded over the past three years.
The government is planning a subsidy for low-income households to purchase electric vehicles, covering up to 80% of the pre-VAT purchase price, capped at 15,000 euros. The scheme also includes an incentive of up to 1,000 euros for home charging station installation. It is intended for beneficiaries of the Social Electricity Tariff and households with annual incomes below 11,572 euros. No application calendar or funding source has been announced yet.
From Monday 2 November, the price of diesel is expected to increase by 2.5 cents per liter, while gasoline is expected to decrease by 2.5 cents. Based on current DGEG data from 30 October, these changes would bring diesel to approximately 2.215 euros per liter and gasoline to 2.008 euros per liter.
