There are 63 flood risk zones in Portugal. Construction continues in some
WWF Portugal identified 63 areas of significant potential flood risk (ARPSI) in mainland Portugal, including 47 fluvial/pluvial and 16 coastal zones. The organization warns that despite ongoing flood risks, construction in these areas persists, often encouraged by a false sense of security provided by dikes and dams.
Why it mattersIf you are looking to buy or rent property, be aware that there are 63 officially designated flood-risk areas in mainland Portugal where authorities are still allowing development, which may affect long-term property safety and insurance.
