Tax Authority warns of possible customs system disruptions on September 29

The Tax and Customs Authority announced that customs applications, as well as systems related to Special Consumption Taxes (IEC) and Vehicle Tax (ISV), may face disruptions on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The technical update will take place from 10:00 to 16:00, during which services could be completely unavailable.

Why it mattersIf you need to handle customs declarations, vehicle taxes, or related administrative tasks on Tuesday, expect potential outages between 10:00 and 16:00 and plan your submissions accordingly.

Flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts today

The 2026-2027 autumn-winter seasonal vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 begins today. The SNS has acquired 2.7 million flu vaccine doses, including 369,000 high-dose vaccines, with free vaccination now extended to children aged 2 to 4. Covid-19 vaccination is targeted at population groups at higher risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

Almost all types of crime increase in schools, with assaults, weapons and sexual violence at 5-year highs

PSP recorded 4,075 total incidents during the 2025/26 school year, of which 2,898 were criminal, representing a 3.8% overall increase. Physical assaults reached 1,426 cases (up 10.5%), weapon seizures rose 11.1% to 60 items, and sexual offences climbed 18.4% to 103 cases.

Bar Association to automatically archive court reports of dilatory acts and counter-attack with complaints against judges

The Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados) has decided to automatically archive all disciplinary reports filed by judges against lawyers under the new rules punishing 'dilatory acts' in criminal proceedings, which entered into force on 1 September. The Association’s Superior Council also announced it will file complaints with the High Council of the Magistracy (CSM) against any judges who submit such reports, alleging the practice infringes on the independence of the legal defense.
