Six infractions recorded in the first hours of the new heavy vehicle regime on the VCI in Porto
As of Tuesday, 2026-09-15, a new prohibition restricts heavy goods vehicles (over 3,500kg, three+ axles, height 1.1m+) from using the VCI in Porto and Gaia on weekdays between 07:00 and 21:00. Vehicles with origin or destination in Porto or Gaia for loading/unloading are exempt but must register on a mandatory digital platform. Heavy traffic is directed to the CREP (A41), which is toll-free.
Why it mattersIf you are a driver operating heavy vehicles in the Porto area, you must now register via the municipal digital platform to use the VCI for local loading or unloading; otherwise, you must use the CREP/A41 route during weekday hours to avoid fines.
