Parliament approves IRS reduction for the first six income brackets

Parliament approved a proposal to reduce IRS tax rates for the first six income brackets to 12.2%, 15.2%, 20.7%, 23.6%, 30.6%, and 34.6%, effective from December. Additionally, a temporary fuel tax (ISP) discount was extended until December 31, and new VAT rules were approved to improve fuel sector traceability.

Why it mattersIf you are a taxpayer in Portugal, you will see a reduction in your IRS withholding starting in December, and fuel prices will remain buffered by the extended ISP discount through the end of the year.

PSD and PS agree to extend parental leave

The two main political parties have agreed to increase parental leave benefits. Shared leave of 180 days will now be paid at 100% of reference salary, provided at least 30 days are taken by each parent. Non-shared leave of 150 days will be fully paid, and optional paternity leave is doubled to 14 days. Additionally, the agreement allows for a one-hour reduction in the daily working period for parents with children under 12 or dependents with disabilities, provided the employer agrees or it is covered by a collective agreement.
