Over half of mortgages in Portugal use intermediaries, study shows

A study by the European Federation of Financial Advisers and Credit Intermediaries (FECIF) found that credit intermediaries account for 57% of mortgage distribution in Portugal, placing it fourth among ten European markets analyzed. The report noted that Portugal lags behind the UK, Poland, and Slovakia, but shows significant progress in process digitalization alongside Hungary and Italy. However, the study also identified local challenges, including reporting excesses, fragmented lender integration, a lack of continuous training, and a lack of direct access to public databases for intermediaries.
