Meta may charge newspapers to share news on Facebook; publishers denounce new rules
The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has requested that Meta suspend by 30 October a new clause allowing the company to crawl and scrape news websites as a condition for using its platforms. Publishers are concerned that this allows Meta to use journalistic content for commercial and AI-development purposes without authorization, and that new 'Meta One' subscription tests may restrict pages to only two free external links per month while simultaneously scraping their content for free.
