The Madeira Regional Health Service (Sesaram) is now enforcing the payment of user fees ('taxas moderadoras') for patients classified as 'green' (low urgency) or 'blue' (non-urgent) at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital emergency department. The service is notifying citizens of outstanding payments and advising users to verify their eligibility for statutory exemptions, such as those for seniors, the unemployed, or people with chronic conditions.
