Lagos municipality keeps property tax at minimum for 2027
The Lagos council will maintain the municipal property tax (IMI) at the legal minimum of 0.3% for 2027 and will again waive its 5% share of residents' personal income tax (IRS). The council also maintains family IMI discounts (€30 for one dependent, €70 for two, €140 for three or more) and a 20% IMI reduction for permanent rental properties, though the latter requires an application through the council's online portal between 1 October 2026 and 30 November 2026.
Why it mattersIf you own property or rent your home in Lagos, you can apply for a 20% IMI reduction until 30 November 2026, and you will continue to benefit from the minimum property tax rate and no municipal surcharge on your income tax throughout 2027.
