Judge orders PSP to fine protesters with covered faces

A Lisbon Administrative Court judge ruled that protesters must comply with Law 58/2026, which prohibits clothing intended to conceal the face in public spaces. Violations of this law are punishable by fines ranging from 150 to 3,000 euros. The same ruling also overturned previous government and police interpretations by permitting the housing protest to continue beyond 00:30.

Why it matters

If you attend protests, be aware that you are now legally prohibited from concealing your face in public, and you risk a fine of at least 150 euros for doing so.

PCP wants to create 10th IRS tax bracket and raise specific deduction to 5672 euros

The Communist Party (PCP) has announced proposed amendments to the 2027 State Budget, including a new 56% IRS tax bracket for incomes above 250,000 euros and raising the specific income deduction to 5,672 euros (up from 4,587.09 euros). The party is also proposing to mandate the inclusion of all income sources for tax purposes above 89,995 euros, reduce VAT on essential goods to 6%, and increase corporate taxes. These proposals are subject to discussion and voting in the parliamentary committee stage.
