Is voting still mandatory for Brazilians living abroad? Confirm here!

Voting is mandatory for literate Brazilians aged 18 to 70, regardless of residence. Those who live abroad and have not transferred their electoral domicile must either vote or justify their absence for each round, with deadlines of December 3, 2026, for the first round and January 8, 2027, for the second round. Failing to vote or justify for three consecutive elections (each round counting as one) results in the cancellation of the electoral registration, which prevents the issuance of a passport.
