Heavy goods vehicles without Porto or Gaia as their destination banned from VCI starting today
Starting this Tuesday, September 15, 2026, heavy goods vehicles over 3,500 kg (with three or more axles and a height of 1.1 meters or more) are prohibited from using the VCI (Via de Cintura Interna) on weekdays between 07:00 and 21:00. Vehicles with Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia as their origin or destination for cargo operations are exempt, provided they are pre-registered on the municipal digital platform (vci.porto.pt).
Why it mattersIf you drive a heavy goods vehicle, you must now register your vehicle via the municipal portal to access the VCI if your route involves loading or unloading in Porto or Gaia; otherwise, you must use the toll-free CREP/A41 as an alternative.
