Heatwave approaching from Saturday: Temperatures between 30ºC and 38ºC
A mass of hot, dry continental air is set to move over the Iberian Peninsula, bringing an abrupt temperature rise of 10ºC to 11ºC between Thursday (September 17) and Saturday (September 19). The heatwave is expected to last throughout the following week, with daytime highs between 30ºC and 38ºC and overnight 'tropical nights' (minimums above 20ºC) in the Alentejo, Tejo Valley, and eastern Algarve.
Why it mattersIf you are in the affected regions, take precautions against heat-related illness, especially since overnight temperatures will not allow for natural cooling, and be aware of the increased risk of wildfires.
