Heat puts 13 districts under yellow warning

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed 13 mainland districts, plus Madeira, under a yellow warning for persistent high maximum temperatures. The warning takes effect at 09:00 on Sunday, 2026-09-13, and remains in force until 18:00 on Monday, 2026-09-14.

Why it mattersIf you are in one of the 13 mainland districts or Madeira, be prepared for high temperatures and take precautions to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours until Monday evening.

Brussels opens two infringement procedures against Portugal over environmental and pollution failures
