A wildfire that began on Thursday night in Barrô, Resende, remains active as of Friday morning, with 221 personnel and 70 vehicles on-site. There are no populations currently at risk, though one firefighter was seriously injured by a falling tree on Thursday.

Brussels opens two infringement procedures against Portugal over environmental and pollution failures

The European Commission has initiated infringement procedures against Portugal for failing to fully transpose two EU environmental directives into national law by their respective deadlines: August 5, 2026, for the Hydrogen and Decarbonized Gas Directive, and July 1, 2026, for the Industrial and Livestock Emissions Directive.
