Chega threatens to vote against Madeira's budget if 30% VAT differential is not included

Hugo Nunes, leader of Chega in Madeira, stated on Friday, 23 October 2026, that the party will vote against the 2027 Regional Budget if it does not include a 30% VAT differential to lower consumer prices. During budget consultations with regional finance secretary Duarte Freitas, the party also proposed making Porto Santo a contingency airport, introducing full-time dentists in health centers with vouchers for waits over 90 days, and launching a ferry tender connecting Madeira to the mainland.
