Caparica fossil cliff retreated seven meters in some areas during February storms

A study by researchers from NOVA University Lisbon evaluated the impact of February storms on the Costa da Caparica fossil cliff in Almada, recording a retreat of up to 6.9 meters in the Pica Galo area. The research advises that high-risk areas remain unsafe for returning residents and recommends establishing primary safety buffers of 10 to 15 meters plus a 10-meter secondary buffer where new construction, alterations, and regular human activity should be strictly prohibited.
