Buying a house in Portugal is 7.9% more expensive than in September last year

Housing prices rose by 7.9% year-on-year as of September 2026, reaching an average of 3,228 euros per square meter. Price increases were recorded across all 20 analyzed areas, with the highest annual rises in Vila Real (17.8%), Leiria, and Beja.

Storms in Almada: Study warns that many affected residents will not be able to return home

A technical study by NOVA University researchers warns that residents displaced by storms in Costa da Caparica and Porto Brandão cannot safely return due to high-risk slope and mass movements. The experts recommend keeping certain zones in Azinhaga dos Formozinhos and the Costa da Caparica Fossil Cliff permanently restricted or vacated, with demolitions required along parts of the cliff. Almada's mayor, Inês de Medeiros, stated that residents will not be allowed to return for safety reasons.
