Brussels opens two infringement procedures against Portugal over environmental and pollution failures

The European Commission has initiated infringement procedures against Portugal for failing to fully transpose two EU environmental directives into national law by their respective deadlines: August 5, 2026, for the Hydrogen and Decarbonized Gas Directive, and July 1, 2026, for the Industrial and Livestock Emissions Directive. Portugal now has two months to respond to the commission regarding these delays before the process escalates to a reasoned opinion.
