AIMA residence permit refusal now counts as an order to leave Portugal
Under the current 'Return Law' policy, a formal notification to leave voluntarily is no longer issued separately. Since September, the refusal of a residency application itself acts as a legal order for the immigrant to leave the country within a window of 20 to 30 days.
Why it matters
If your residency application is refused, you are now under an immediate legal obligation to leave Portugal within 20 to 30 days of the decision, without waiting for a separate notification; if you intend to challenge the refusal, you must initiate the appeal process immediately.PúblicoRead original ↗
