Portugal wants 900 million more, 'frugal' countries stand firm: new European budget must shrink or it won't pass
The Irish presidency of the European Union has proposed a 140 billion euro cut to the post-2028 community budget, but 'frugal' member states including Germany and the Netherlands are demanding deeper reductions. While Portugal has secured additional funding as of June, it is still negotiating to secure an extra 900 million euros for Madeira and the Azores.
