ECB to cover costs for creating and operating the digital euro

The European Central Bank (ECB) intends to fund the digital euro's central infrastructure and will not charge transaction or system fees to users. The digital euro is designed as a payment method rather than an investment product, meaning it will not accrue interest and will have holding limits, currently debated in the range of 500 to 3,000 euros. Payments exceeding individual holdings can be linked to commercial bank accounts to cover the difference.
